Real carriers don't collect redelivery fees by text, and the link leads to a fake page that captures your card information. It works because almost everyone is expecting a package.

Red flags to watch for

• A text that a package “couldn't be delivered” with a link
• A request for a small “redelivery” or “customs” fee
• A link that isn't the carrier's real website
• It arrives when you're not expecting that carrier

What to do

1. Don't tap the link — delete it.
2. Track packages only through the carrier's official app or website.
3. Never enter card details on a page you reached from a text.
4. Report it to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
